Notes on an iPad

I want to use my iPad as a replacement for my old-school Moleskine, but I’d like to keep one classic item. The pen. Websites like CNET describe the Pogo Stylus or Pogo Sketch as the pen to be.

Convert your wave files into m4r, or how to make a ringtone

I’ve seen a very nice TV ad and I’d like to have its music as a ringtone on my iPhone. Thus, I’ve watched the ad with a screen capture tool, recorded it, exported the audio file with iMovie as WAV (because it is not possible to export M4P files directly), and imported it to iTunes.
In former versions of iTunes it has been possible to right-click the file to convert it to the file format as defined in the iTunes import-settings. This option in context menu disappeared in the current (9.1) version of iTunes. I do not know if it disappeared with this version, but it is no longer there. I have to admit I was short to buy one of these terrible file converters, but finally I was able to find the option to convert in the normal menu of iTunes.
Here is what I did.
- Record the website with the Screencature application IshowU HD
- Import the recorded movie into iMovie and cut it accordingly
- Export the audio part of the movie by using the export with QuickTime dialogue
- Import the audio into iTunes via drag and drop
- in iTunes click Advanced –> convert into AAC
- on the converted file, right-click and select “show in finder”
- In Finder rename filename.m4p to filename.m4r
- drag and drop the renamed file into iTunes
- it shall be now in the ringtone section
- sync your iPhone
IPhone 3Gs und Vodafone

Ich muss diese Linksammlung kurz bereit stellen, da es schon etwas gedauert hat, bis ich alles zusammen hatte …
Ich empfehle einen WLAN Zugang zu haben, da man nicht auf Anhieb mit dem IPhone über 3G online kommt.
Nachem das Iphone nun auch mit der Vodafone-Karte funktioniert, sollen noch Einstellungen für den Versand von MMS und den ZUgang zum Internet mittels 3G vorgenommen werden.
Zuerst die Einstellungen für den Versand vom MMS
Hierbei ist zu beachten, dass die Einstellung des Proxy Servers in der Anleitung für Vodafone falsch ist, da noch ein “:8080″ also Doppelpunkt achtsigachtzig angehängt werden muss, da der Server auf den Port 8080 horcht.
Auf jeden Fall danach durchbooten, da erst dann das Iphone die Einstellungen übernommen hat und man danach MMS versenden kann.

Ich wundere mich sehr darüber, dass es zu diesem Feature noch keine Applikation im App-Store gibt.

Da mein Vertrag ausgelaufen ist, habe ich im Zuge einer Verlängerung des Vertrags ein neues iPhone 3G bekommen. Mein bisheriges wird weiter gehuldigt, war es doch der Kaufgrund für das neue. Passend zum neuen Telefon habe ich nun auch einen Vertrag, sodass ich das Telefon nicht mehr “jailbreaken” muss, was laut Aussage eines Kollegen sowieso noch nicht mit dem 3G geht. Für Kunden, die sich auch im Ausland aufhalten hat T-Mobile besondere Datentarife bereitgestellt. Dachte ich. Haben sie nämlich nicht. Es gibt eine 50MB pro Monat-Option, die aber nur in Europa gilt. Mal davon abgesehen, dass eine Option für Europa schon eine Frechheit ist, wo wie doch alle im gemeinsamen Europa leben, ist es umso schlimmer, dass es nichts für weitere Länder gibt. Wobei “nichts” ja auch falsch ist. Jedes MB kostet in den USA 8,40 und in Australien 13,40. Ja, Euro. Ist ja echt ein Schnapp … Man könnte es auch unverschämt nennen.
